The focus of our joint project is to create a learning community on the development of digital learning environments and on the potential of ICT as a catalyst of social and educational innovation and change. It means seeking solutions or action models for utilization of ICT for everyday practical school activities with intercultural sensitivity and meeting the dilemmas of crossing informal and formal learning boundaries.
We aim at developing methods through which ICT can provide effectiveness in learning from the pedagogical point of view and can thus change something in learning processes towards mutual learning experience and good correspondence between teachers and learners. Teachers and students will construct together knowledge. New environments based on constructivistic ways of learning will be created. How can the schools’ atmosphere be changed with this approach?
It is not about ICT as technique, but how learning can be enhanced through ICT as a mediating artifact in classrooms, eg discovery learning, motivating students and attracting drop-outs back to learning, enabling learning outside the school environment, promoting studying of students with special needs through working with ICT. How does this kind of use of ICT affect teachers in their teaching practises?
The project also focuses on safe and responsible use of the Internet to provide students with the critical thinking and decision-making skills they need to recognize and avoid dangerous and unlawful online behavior. How does the Internet affect students’ social lives?
